Gluck Fellows Program of the Arts

The Gluck Fellows Program of the Arts, established in 1996, places UC Riverside's performing and fine artists into the schools and retirement homes in the Inland Empire, a growing and diverse area of three million people. This continuing community arts outreach program allows students and faculty to give performances, presentations and exhibitions of music, poetry, art, art history, dance, and theater, polishing their own art as they educate and entertain their audiences. Funded by the Maxwell H. Gluck Foundation, the arts outreach program has enabled UC Riverside dancers to pound out the rhythm with their feet at the California School for the Deaf, in front of an audience that appreciates--more than most--the art of body language. UC Riverside chamber ensembles offer up Mendelssohn and Brahms inside the recreation room of a retirement home, where silver-haired Alzeheimer's patients nod to familiar favorites. Children tour the Sweeney Art Gallery on campus, or watch as a group of theater students present "The Ugly Duckling" in an elementary school multipurpose room.
